Patient Story – 2 year old boy from Sierra Leone

August 2016 – ReSurge director Mr Albert Paintsil led a team from Accra, Ghana in a surgical mission to Holy Spirit Hospital, Makeni, Sierra Leone. Joining the team was Mr Eric Wongo, one of Sierra Leone’s first trainee reconstructive surgeons, currently training, supported by ReSurge, at Korle-Bu hospital, Accra.
During this mission they met a 2 year old boy . He has a Cleft lip and Palate. Mr Paintsil and his team successfully operated, and he is making a good recovery.

His delighted Mother and Grandmother said.

“ We are so grateful, he is eating and drinking better, asking more questions and his speaking has greatly improved”

As a result of his surgery, this little boys future looks a lot brighter. He will grow up without the stigma attached to this condition and with far more chance of future employment and a better quality of life.
